David Chao is cofounder and general partner at DCM, which invests across the U.S., China and Japan. He invested in online lending startup SoFi (currently valued at $1.3 billion), which is hoping for a spring 2015 IPO that would raise the company’s valuation to $3.5 billion. Chao invested early in Chinese social network Renren (IPO 2011) and in SlingMedia, acquired in 2007 for $380 million by Dish/EchoStar. Chao also was involved in flash storage processor company SandForce, acquired in 2011 by LSI for $370 million. Recent string of exits: PGP Corp., Starflyer, HireRight. Chao recently joined the boards of YikYak, uCloud, Chosen, and Slice. He is chairman at 51job and also sits on the board at Renren, Bittorrent, SoFi, 99Bill, and others. Prior to DCM, Chao was co-founder, acting CFO and CTO at Japan Communications. He previously worked at McKinsey, Apple and Recruit, and is on the advisory board of Legend Capital.
