Monica R. Martinez is an education strategist, author, speaker on innovation and education, including high school redesign, teaching, and college access.As a nationally recognized expert in education, Martinez wrote the book Deeper Learning: How Eight Innovative Public Schools are Transforming Education in the 21st Century to inspire readers on what is possible in teaching and learning and then a subsequent implementation guide. She is a gubernatorial appointee to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing and previously, she has served as a President Obama appointee to the White House Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics. She was named an NYU Distinguished Alumni in 2017. Martinez started her career working for admissions at a public university in Texas and ended her time in higher education as an Assistant Dean of the College for Williams College. Since then, she has worked for foundations and intermediaries in various leadership roles on high school redesign and innovation including the Learning Policy Institute, the XQ Institute, The New Tech Network, and the KnowledgeWorks Foundation.
