Shanti Chu is an award-winning philosophy professor in the Chicago area with a desire to make philosophy more accessible and applicable to our daily lives. She integrates active and dynamic pedagogical methods for her face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. Her philosophical interests and areas of specialization relate to feminist, postcolonial, and critical-race philosophy along with her current work on food ethics.Outside of the classroom Shanti has directed a service learning program, directed an LGBTQ+ Resource Center, and currently runs/writes for an ethical vegetarian food blog, ChiVeg, which features her homemade vegetarian/vegan recipes along with restaurant reviews from a plant-based perspective. Her blog grapples with the notion of “”ethical eating””.She has recently published on nonviolence and plant-based eating in Through a Vegan Studies Lens, has an article coming out on multiracial identity in the soon to be published Philosophy for Girls book, and is currently working on an article on philosophy and food for the upcoming Public Philosophy textbook.Public speaking or virtual speaking is another way for Shanti to inspire philosophical interest. She has conducted LGBTQ+ allyship trainings for police officers and given talks to various communities on inclusivity and authenticity.
