Thomas (“Tom”) J. LeBlanc became the 17th President of the George Washington University on August 1, 2017. Prior to his presidency, Dr. LeBlanc served as the Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Miami from July 2005 through July 2017. Before that, he served as the Robert L. and Mary L. Sproull Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Sciences, and Engineering at the University of Rochester between 1996 and 2005.Dr. LeBlanc received his B.S. degree in computer science from the State University of New York in 1977, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer science from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1979 and 1982, respectively. After completion of his Ph.D. degree, he joined the faculty of the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, as an Assistant Professor of Computer Science. In 1987, he received the Office of Naval Research Young Investigator award for his work in parallel and distributed computer systems.
