Torya Blanchard is a 33 year-old, Detroit native who moved to Paris in 1998 as an au pair to look after two children. After years, she moved back to the US and obtained a degree in French from Wayne State University and landed a job as a French teacher at Consortium High School, a Detroit Charter school. Torya taught for five years before pursuing her dream to open a creperie in Detroit.Good Girls was established April 21, 2008. The idea for the business originated from the time she spent in France, watching crepes being made on the street. The inspiration in bringing a piece of that culture back to Detroit came to life one day after a spin class at the nearby Boll Family YMCA, where Torya passed by a small retail space with a for-rent sign. Using the money from her 401(k) and savings accounts, Torya stopped teaching and set-up shop in the 48-sq ft space. The current Good Girls location is now a 2,000 sq foot space located on Woodward next to the DIA at the Park Shelton.Torya also owns and operates Good Girls Deli located at the Plante Moran Building in Southfield, MI. She is currently overseeing construction of the second location of Good Girls in Grosse Pointe Park scheduled to open in June.Torya is also opening a breakfast/lunch place in Hamtramck called “Ooties”, scheduled to open late May, as well as being a partner in a vintage furniture shop next to the Good Girls Grosse Pointe Park location, called “Little Vera”.Also apart of Torya’s is the development of a bar at the Park Shelton named “Rodin”.Contact a speaker booking agent to check availability on Torya Blanchard and other top speakers and celebrities.
